Add quick preview of documents within Flagship (PDFs, DOCs, etc.)
Reported by WTG User | April 11th, 2010 @ 10:40 PM
A lot of people seem to be annoyed by the fact that they can't quickly preview PDFs and Word docs right from within their web browsers. We should attempt to create this functionality, so that people don't need to actually download a bunch of documents to their computers every time. That, or scrape the text automatically from docs and put the scraped text on the doc pages. We're already doing full-text search on these docs with ferret; I don't see why we can't just scrape out some of the text for display or implement a quick preview of the file.

We can definitely display the full text we extract from documents, but I'm worried that display will be extremely limited (i.e hit select all in PDF and paste into notepad). It would be really neat if we could preserve some of the formatting, but I haven't seen any libraries to this effect.
We could embed Google Docs Viewer https://docs.google.com/viewer to achieve this functionality.
