.NET compatibility issues
Reported by Brian Michalski | July 13th, 2009 @ 05:05 PM | in Screensaver Alpha 2 (closed)
The screensaver works well on my PC running Windows 7 and Visual Studio 2008, but it doesn't work well on all other computers. Use this ticket to document configurations of computers which don't work (.NET versions, Operating Systems, etc).
Currently the "target framework" is .NET 3.5

Rick Hartt's machine has Windows XP SP3 and at least .NET 3.0 installed. I will confirm tomorrow if he has 3.5 installed. On Rick's machine, the screensaver crashes whenever the computer tries to load it (i.e. when the 'Preview' button is clicked or when the screensaver is automatically triggered after a certain number of minutes).

FYI: Josh Greenman's Windows XP machine had .NET 3.5 installed, but required a reboot before the screensaver actually worked without crashing. The installer did NOT prompt the user to restart the machine.

- State changed from new to resolved
- Tag set to .net, screensaver
Both installers should now force people to have the .NET 3.5 installed before the install will complete. The "heavy" install will install it, the light one will just throw an error message and quit.
I still need to research if there is a technique to provide an alert of sorts when the screensaver program is loaded.
While I am going to "resolve" this ticket, its still a decent place to keep track of errors.
