Failed requests on live search

Sometimes, when I type something into the search box on docs.studentsenate.rpi.edu, the search drop-down box doesn't come up. Firebug reveals that the cause of this is 500 errors as the result of some of the queries to script.js.
The problem seems to crop up most frequently when typing quickly.
Firefox 3.5.7 / Ubuntu 9.10

I've noticed the same thing, though I haven't gone so far as to fire up firebug. I think the problem relates to the search queries getting fired off too quickly, or the ferret server taking too long to respond. It might make sense to slow down the "live" search so its not as live (i.e add a second delay?)
