Google Docs Live Viewer not working for .docx and .pptx

A while back this feature used to work. Some time over the last couple months, something changed either on Flagship's side or on Google's side that rendered OfficeOpenXML files unable to be opened in the Live Preview window. I investigated the issue last month and found that when the identical .docx files were hosted on a different server, Google Docs was able to open the successfully. Brian and I discussed the issue a bit, one hypothesis was that the way the Flagship server sends the http packets in chunks might be causing the issue. The issue may be associated with the file corruption issues that Flagship Docs has experienced in the past.

Like you said, I'm fairly clueless on this one. Unlike the download count
bug, I'd be very surprised if the RoR 3 rewrite magically fixes this.
