Concerto 2 Live Search Module

Reported by Brian R Zaik | August 11th, 2010 @ 06:33 PM

We need to create a standardized live search block that can be used for multiple applications within Concerto 2. This needs to be a common UI element for at least the following areas:

  • Add Graphics Content :: Find and Add a Location for a Message (Plugin)
  • Add Graphics Content :: Find, Preview, and Select Feed(s) (Primary Functionality)

The attached screenshot shows these two applications, which would both appear on the Add Graphics Content view if the location plugin is installed. The user would have a big honking search box that would search available entries on the fly and display matched entries (based on name/label first and perhaps some matched meta-data second). Below the search box would be a listing (perhaps in a table) of matched entries. We may want to allow the matched entries list to have its own scrollbar, but maybe not.

I wonder if these are actually the same live search module or two different modules.

It seems like the first case (find location) is more like a search-based autocomplete where the second case is a search-based selection tool.

The first system (location-plugin) seems to lend itself really well to a module that we can use application-wide while the second case (feed selection) might need to be really tailored to feed selection.

I was thinking that maybe the second case could use the live search from the first case. If we modularize the two appropriately, perhaps we could do that without having to repeat functionality for doing a live search on the feeds.
